Design Methodologies

During the past decade, there has been a growing move to transform "art" of systems analysis and design into an "engineering-type" discipline. The feeling that there has to be a more clearly defined logical method developing a system that meets user requirements has led to new teach niques and methodologies that fundamentally attempt to do the following:
   1. Improve productivity of analysts and programmers.
   2. Improve documentation and subsequent maintenance and enhancements.
   3. Cut down drastically on cost overruns and delays.
   4. Improve communication among the user, analyst, designer, and grammar.
   5. Standardize the approach to analysis and design.
   6. Simplify design by segmentation.
